Birthday boy!

Nathan thanks all those who came to the party, and even those who couldn't

Nathan thanks all those who came to the party, and even those who couldn't

OK so the “every day” thing isn’t happening. Maybe I should start out a bit slower. Let’s shoot for every month and take it from there.

Anyway, Nathan turned two last month, and I’ve got a few pictures to share. I forgot to take my camera so it really is only a few – for some reason I just can’t take pictures with a camera that’s not mine. Click the ‘thank you’ card above for more (and I’ll decide later if that counts as my design for the day/week/month post).

Take care!

I’m still kickin’

July 27th, 2009

So yeah, it’s been a while – ok, a LONG time since I posted anything here. I guess the main reason I posted during vacation was trying to find something to do to pass the time. Since then it’s been back to work and back to school, and then the little free time I have I usually end up wasting playing video games. I’m trying to change that and do more ‘productive’ things, and one of those things is to try to post something – anything – every day. Maybe some day I’ll even have people reading it :)

I’ve finally started making a real effort to create a little corner of the web to call my own – since I started school I’ve designed a few mock-up web pages, but never really finished what I started when it came to making my own page. I’ve got several revisions that I’ve started and stopped, but now I really want to put something together where I can showcase both my photos and the designs I’ve been doing for school and on my own. That’s another thing I want to try doing more often – I’m sinking a lot of money in to a graphic design degree, and don’t yet have much to show for it. Enough random disjointedness…

Since I haven’t been doing much in the way of design lately, here’s a link to a project I did for my most recent web design class. Photography is stock and the navigation scripts (animated fades on the top navigation, and the ‘lightbox’ popups on the individual model pictures) are premade scripts with a little tweaking, but the overall layout was my design. There’s parts of it I like and parts I don’t, but practice makes perfect and I’m hoping I can keep this promise I’ve made to myself and actually get that practice. Until tomorrow – see ya.

Home at last!

Snow?!

Snow?!

I was too busy (lazy?) after getting home to take my own pic for this post, so here’s an “artist’s representation” of what it looked like shortly after we got home. It was a bit depressing getting out at the pit stops on the way back and feeling the tempurature steadily drop from state to state – 89° down to the low thirties was a bit of a shock, even though I knew it was coming.

I’ll try to get some new pics up soon now that we have all the different camera cords together, but school is starting back up today so my time is a bit limited. Not to mention I have no idea what to write about now – my daily life doesn’t feel interesting enough for blog posts. I’ll try to at least share my school projects if nothing else, and anything else I deem suitable.

Vacation Update #3

April 3rd, 2009

Me Fishing (kinda)

Me Fishing (kinda)

Well, this is what it would have looked like if:
a – I had actually brought the camera instead of leaving it in the boathouse.
b – I had actually caught something.

Really though, the fishing trip was great. We saw a stingray and probably hundreds of millions of dollars worth of boats and houses. I did even catch a couple fish – a baby catfish, an almost-big-enough-to-keep sea trout, and a couple ladyfish. The ladyfish liked to pretend they were going to let you reel them all the way in, only to jump and throw the hook just as they got close to the boat. No problem though, my guide says they’re no good to eat anyway, and the ones we were pulling in were all under the limit.

The trip is almost over, we’re heading home tomorrow afternoon. I’m not sure whether to be happy or sad. It’s been a great time but I’m feeling a bit of cabin fever and I’m ready to get back to my natural habitat. I don’t know, however, how we’re going to keep Nathan happy without a giant backyard, a world-sized “swimming pool”, and enough birds and animals to chase for days.

Next update will probably come from home, where I don’t know what I’ll be able to write about, but I’ll keep trying.

Vacation Update #2

April 2nd, 2009

One of the locals enjoying the sunset.

One of the locals enjoying the sunset.

Yesterday was mainly a day of relaxation, sitting around the house and recovering from my jetski trip. My legs are so sore from all the wave hopping and trying to keep an 800-lb machine from shooting out from under me. We got some burgers and kebobs and grilled out in the back yard, and that was pretty much it for the day. Today I’m going fishing with the goundskeeper here – very nice of him to offer to take me along :)   Wish me luck!

Greetings from Florida!

Greetings from Florida!

Ahhh vacation… I was planning on keeping this week as tech-free as possible – I brought the laptop along just to offload pictures from my camera, but one of the first things I found was an ethernet jack so I took the time to photoshop this little postcard together. I think it’s a suitable start for my first blog post.

We’ve been doing as little as possible for the first few days, just relaxing and getting over the 22 hour drive. Today we got a little more bored than normal and decided to go rent jet skis. I hadn’t been out on one before and was a bit nervous, but let me tell you these things are awesome! It was a matter of minutes before I was speeding full throttle across the Gulf of Mexico, hopping waves and taking facefuls of salt spray. I didn’t realize it would be such a full-body workout – it’s 8 hours later and I can still barely walk.

Anyway the main point of this post is to link to some pictures I’ve uploaded. Since I’m the one behind the camera most of the time, there’s not much of me in them, but once I get home to our mess of cables I can check everyone else’s cameras.

Thanks for reading!
